Hasugaike Kofun Cluster
A ancient tomb in Miyazaki — vast tombs of ancient rulers.
Overview
The Hasugaike Kofun Cluster spreads across the Yoshiki area of Miyazaki City in Miyazaki Prefecture. Its defining feature is a large number of yokoanabo, tunnel tombs carved as artificial caves into a cliff of tuff. Surrounded by greenery, the quiet site offers a window into the ancient burial culture of southern Kyushu.

History
It was designated a National Historic Site in 1971 because it marks the southern limit in Japan of the distribution of horizontal corridor-type tombs. The burial chambers cut into the tuff cliff are valuable remains that reveal a distinctive local funerary style.
Access
The cluster is located in Miyazaki City, not far from the urban center. Because the tombs are set into a tuff cliff, the grounds are uneven. Please confirm exact routes and visiting hours with maps and official information.
Best season
