Mount Osuzu is a 1,405.2-meter peak in Miyazaki Prefecture on the island of Kyushu. Straddling the towns of Tsuno and Kijo-cho, it rises within the lush Osuzu Prefectural Natural Park. Counted among Japan's 200 Famous Mountains, it is a favorite among hikers.

History
Mount Osuzu forms part of an ancient volcanic formation known as the Osuzuyama volcano-plutonic complex, and the mountain is said to have experienced a massive eruption around 15.1 million years ago. It has long been known by an alternative name written as 'Misuzuyama.'

The mountain sits on the boundary between the towns of Tsuno and Kijo-cho. As a full-scale peak of 1,405.2 meters, please check maps and official information for trailheads and routes in advance, and plan according to the weather and your fitness.
Best season
Early summer with its brilliant fresh greenery, and autumn with clear air and open views, are both ideal. Starting the climb during the bright daytime hours gives you a comfortable margin.
