History
Sakuragaoka Daijingū is said to have been founded in 1621, and has thus recorded roughly four centuries of history. In the modern era it was ranked as a prefectural shrine and has walked its path as a shrine gathering the reverence of local people. Its hall is built in the Shinmei-zukuri style that shares the same lineage as Ise Grand Shrine, and its plain yet refined form conveys a freshness characteristic of a Shinmei shrine dedicated to Amaterasu Ōmikami. Its long history of being cherished, together with Nishi Park, as a cherry-blossom spot is another of the shrine's great charms.
