
Overview
The Miyagi Museum of Art is a prefectural art museum in the Aoba ward of Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture. In addition to the main building designed by Kunio Maekawa, an adjoining wing to the west houses the Satō Chūryō Memorial Museum, which displays works by Satō Chūryō. Its collection centers on works by artists connected with Miyagi Prefecture and the Tōhoku region from the modern era onward.

History
The main building opened in 1981, and the Satō Chūryō Memorial Museum opened in 1990. The collection focuses on works by artists associated with Miyagi Prefecture and the Tōhoku region from the modern era onward, and also includes works created outside Japan. Since 19 June 2023 the facility has been undergoing renovation due to aging.

Best season
As an indoor museum it can be visited year-round. It is advisable to check on renovation and opening status before visiting.
