History
The Port of Yokkaichi was opened in 1899 and grew to serve as a port supporting the Chūkyō industrial zone. It is designated an International Strategic Port (formerly a Designated Major Port) under the Port and Harbour Act, a designated port under the Port Regulations Act, and an open port under the Customs Act, and it is also positioned as a Super Core Port by government ordinance. The port is administered by the Yokkaichi Port Authority, established jointly by Mie Prefecture and the city of Yokkaichi.
