History

The ruins are understood to be those of a kanga, a local government office that operated under Japan's ritsuryo administrative system between the Asuka and Heian periods. After years of survey and research confirmed its historical and academic significance, it was formally designated a National Historic Site on July 28, 2006.

Access

The site is located in the Oyachi-cho district of Yokkaichi City. Traveling by car from central Yokkaichi is the most practical option; those relying on public transport can consider a bus or taxi from Kintetsu or JR Yokkaichi Station, and it is worth checking local signage or information from the Yokkaichi City Board of Education before visiting.

Best season

As the site is essentially an open-air archaeological park, the milder weather of spring and autumn makes for the most comfortable walking conditions, away from strong summer sun or winter snow.
