
Overview
The Port of Maizuru is a harbor in Maizuru Bay, facing the Sea of Japan, in Maizuru City, Kyoto Prefecture. It is managed by Kyoto Prefecture and designated an Important Port under the Ports and Harbors Law and a Specified Port under the Port Regulations Law. Since 2004 it has also been known as Kyoto Maizuru Port.

History
Long known as a port of call for the Kitamaebune coastal trading ships, it flourished as one of the leading commercial ports on the Sea of Japan coast. During the Meiji era the Maizuru Naval District, the only navy district on the Sea of Japan side, was established here, and the port developed as a naval harbor. It was formally opened in 1901, and after the war it received many returning ships.
Access
The port lies in Maizuru City in the northern part of Kyoto Prefecture, with facilities developed in both its eastern and western harbors. It can be visited together with nearby sightseeing facilities.
Best season
As a harbor city facing the sea, it can be visited year-round. The mild weather of spring and autumn is well suited to strolling around the port.
