Seated in Ono in Yamato Town, this venerable shrine is also known as Heitate Jingu.

Access

The shrine is located in Ono, Yamato Town, Kamimashiki District, Kumamoto Prefecture, on the highland terrain of the Kyushu mountains. As the surroundings are a quiet mountain setting, coming by car is more convenient than by public transit. Please confirm the exact route and worship hours on a map or official information before you set out.

Best season

The shrine can be visited year-round, but spring, when the trees bud, and early summer, when the greenery deepens, offer a refreshing visit amid the clear mountain air. Early morning brings few visitors, letting you feel a solemn atmosphere befitting the name "Shrine of the Sun" in the stillness.
