History
Mount Daikanbō forms the highest point of the northern outer rim that encloses the Aso Caldera, standing at 935.9 meters. The name is said to have been coined by Tokutomi Sohō, a critic born in Kumamoto Prefecture, inspired by the view from the peak. Its panoramic views, which convey the scale of the caldera landscape, have made it one of the best-known viewpoints in the Aso area.
