History

Yatsushiro-gu was founded in 1884 and enshrines Prince Kaneyoshi, who was active during the era of the Northern and Southern Courts. It is regarded as one of the Fifteen Shrines of the Kenmu Restoration, and its grounds lie within the nationally designated historic site of the Yatsushiro Castle ruins group, which includes the Furumoto, Mugishima, and Yatsushiro castle ruins.
