Overview
Mount Naka is one of the peaks that make up Mount Aso in Kumamoto Prefecture, a volcano located at roughly the center of the central cone group. Standing 1,506 meters high, it is the most actively erupting of the mountains that compose Mount Aso. It has craters numbered from the first to the seventh, and entry to the area around the craters is restricted due to volcanic gas.

History

Access
Administratively, it straddles the city of Aso and the Aso district in Kumamoto Prefecture. Access to the crater area may be restricted because of volcanic gas, so checking local restriction status is necessary.
Best season
The mountain scenery changes with the seasons. However, entry may be limited depending on volcanic activity and gas conditions, so it is best to choose a visit time in accordance with restriction information.
