Overview
Lake Shinsei is a dammed lake in the northern part of the Oiso Hills, straddling Hadano and Nakai in Ashigarakami District, Kanagawa Prefecture. It formed in 1923 (Taisho 12) when the shaking of the Great Kanto Earthquake caused a landslide on a slope, blocking a small stream so that water pooled behind it. It is registered as a Registered Monument of Japan.

History
In 1923 (Taisho 12), the shaking of the Great Kanto Earthquake caused a landslide on the slope of a small ravine. The displaced earth blocked the stream, and water pooled there to form the lake. Owing to this origin it came to be called Lake Shinsei, and it is registered as a Registered Monument of Japan.

The lake lies in the northern part of the Oiso Hills, straddling Hadano and Nakai in Ashigarakami District, Kanagawa Prefecture. Head from the surrounding urban area toward the hills.
Best season
The hillside lakeshore is at its best in autumn, when the surrounding trees turn color. The fresh greenery of spring is also well suited to strolling around the shore.
