Overview

Izumo-taisha Sagami-bunshi is a Shinto shrine in Hirasawa, Hadano City, Kanagawa Prefecture, and a branch shrine of the great Izumo-taisha in Shimane. Affectionately called the Izumo of the Kanto region, it draws wide devotion as a shrine of marriage and good relationships. Founded in 1888, it is distinguished by its long, wing-like offering hall known as the Yoku-heiden. Surrounded by greenery at the foot of the Tanzawa mountains, it welcomes worshippers from afar who pray for good matches and family harmony.

Highlights

  • The Izumo of Kanto, enshrining Okuninushi, deity of marriage ties
  • The distinctive, wing-like Yoku-heiden offering hall
  • Founded in 1888, a branch enshrining Izumo-taisha's divided spirit
  • Nature-rich grounds at the foot of the Tanzawa mountains

History

Izumo-taisha Sagami-bunshi was founded in 1888 through a petition to Senge Takatomi, the 80th kokuso (high priest) of Izumo-taisha. Enshrining a divided spirit of the main Izumo-taisha, it has served as a central place of Izumo faith in the Kanto region. The long offering hall known as the Yoku-heiden is the shrine's symbolic structure, and since its founding the site has upheld devotion to Okuninushi-no-Okami, the deity of marriage ties.

Access

The shrine stands in Hirasawa, Hadano, near latitude 35.37 and longitude 139.20, at the foot of the Tanzawa mountains. The usual approach is by bus or taxi from Hadano Station on the Odakyu Odawara Line. Nature surrounds the area, so a visit can be combined with enjoying Hadano's rural scenery. Check official information for current access and prayer reception hours.

Best season

The New Year period is especially lively with those praying for good relationships, but the shrine can be visited year-round. Sitting at the foot of Tanzawa, the fresh green of spring and the autumn foliage make the surroundings beautiful for a refreshing visit.
