
Overview
Eniyabanare Island is an uninhabited island in the Amami Islands, belonging to Setouchi in Kagoshima Prefecture. It lies about 1.5 kilometers northwest of Sanku on Kakeroma Island, facing the southern shore of Amami Oshima across the Oshima Strait. With an area of roughly 0.31 square kilometers, the entire island lies within Amami Guntō National Park.

History
In 1921, construction began on the Eniyabanare battery attached to the Amami Oshima fortress, and it remained in use until the end of the war in 1945. Traces of the former barracks still remain near the summit. In recent years the island has been used as a site for outdoor experience activities on uninhabited terrain.
Access
As an uninhabited island it has no regular ferry service and is reached by sea from neighboring inhabited islands. A visit requires advance arrangements and confirmation of safe conditions.
Best season
Set in a subtropical stretch of sea, the island is best approached when the water is calm and the weather is settled for activities offshore.
