Overview
Cape Sata lies in the town of Minamiōsumi, Kagoshima Prefecture, facing the Ōsumi Strait. It is the tip of the Ōsumi Peninsula and the southernmost point of the main island of Kyushu. The cape is known as a scenic site within the Kirishima-Kinkōwan National Park.

History
A lighthouse was built at the cape's tip in 1871, designed by the Scotsman Richard Henry Brunton. The surrounding area was once managed by a private company that charged admission, but in 2012 it was transferred to the town of Minamiōsumi and became free to enter.

The cape is located in Sata, Minamiōsumi, Kagoshima Prefecture. It is reached overland toward the tip of the Ōsumi Peninsula.

Clear days, when the strait comes into view, are convenient for a visit. In seasons with clear air, distant coasts can be seen.
