
Overview
Teshima is an island in the eastern part of Japan's Seto Inland Sea, located between the islands of Naoshima and Shōdoshima and part of Kagawa Prefecture. It has an area of about 14.5 square kilometres and a population of roughly 1,000 people. Teshima is one of the venues of the Setouchi Triennale, also known as the Setouchi International Art Festival.

History
According to national census figures, the island's population moved from 1,327 in 2000 to 1,141 in 2005, 1,018 in 2010 and 867 in 2015, showing a gradual decline. Administratively, Teshima belongs to the town of Tonoshō in Shōzu District, Kagawa Prefecture.
Access
As an island in the eastern Seto Inland Sea, Teshima is reached by boat from surrounding ports. It lies about 3.7 kilometres west of Shōdoshima.

In the mild climate of the Seto Inland Sea, the island's scenery can be enjoyed throughout the seasons. Visitor numbers rise during the period of the art festival.
