History
The facility began in 1969 when Shikoku Electric Power opened it as the "Yashima Sanjo Aquarium." After a brief closure in 2006, it reopened that December as the "New Yashima Aquarium." It is a long-established leisure spot that has stood on the Yashima summit since its founding. Note that it has been closed for renovation since April 7, 2025, for a planned period of about two years.
Access
The aquarium is located in Yashima-higashimachi, Takamatsu City, on the summit of Mount Yashima at about 300 meters elevation. Because you must ascend from the foot of the mountain to the summit, please check the route along with the opening status on maps and official sources before visiting. It is currently closed for renovation.
Best season
Given its mountaintop location on Yashima, a daytime visit on a clear day when the views can be enjoyed is recommended. However, as it has been closed since April 7, 2025, for a planned period of about two years, please confirm the reopening date via official sources.
