
Overview
The Doki River is the only Class A river in Kagawa Prefecture. It rises in the Sanuki Mountains around the town of Mannō and flows down to the city of Marugame, where it empties into the Seto Inland Sea. About 33 km long with a catchment area of 127 km², it waters a basin home to roughly 39,000 people.

History
The river takes its name from the Doki district of Marugame near its mouth, where craftsmen long lived making earthenware from local clay. Its middle reach is also called the Haraikawa, a river in which worshippers once purified themselves before praying. Major floods were recorded in 1912, 1954, 1976, 1990 and 2004.
Access
The mouth lies in Marugame, Kagawa Prefecture, and the source is in the Sanuki Mountains near Mannō in Nakatado District. The riverbank is easy to reach from town and can be followed upstream, but check maps and official information for detailed routes.
Best season
Spring through early summer is ideal, when the flow settles and the gravel banks are easy to walk beneath clear skies over the Sanuki plain.
