History
Said to have been discovered in 1980, the cave formed within rock strata dating back roughly 350 million years, making it one of Japan's oldest known stalactite caves. Inside are Hyōtan Pond, named for its gourd-like shape, and Jōkon-no-Izumi ('Spring of the Purified Soul'), an underground lake said to be more than 10 meters deep.
