History

Shōbō-ji is a Sōtō Zen temple in Mizusawa Kuroishi-machi, Ōshū, Iwate Prefecture, with the mountain name Daibai Nengezan and Nyoirin Kannon as its principal image. It was once called the third head temple, ranking after the head temples of Eihei-ji and Sōji-ji. On 11 September 1990, its main hall and other structures were designated Important Cultural Properties of Japan.
