History

Among its temple treasures is a set of official documents concerning the Kaga domain's fire-arrow ordnance, known as the Korai-Ogawa-ryu cannon documents, which preserve a glimpse of the military and technical history of the Kaga domain of a million koku. For details of its full history and whether its treasures are on view, please check official sources.

Did you know?
💡 The temple's Korai-Ogawa-ryu cannon documents are said to relate to the Kaga domain's fire-arrow, or artillery and gunpowder, technology. It is unusual for a temple to have preserved such domain technical records. Remembering its mountain name, Otani-zan, adds depth to a visit.
