The Kaga-Honda Museum is a museum in Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture. Built around the heirlooms of the Honda family, senior retainers of the Kaga domain, it is operated by the Hanro Honda Zohinkan public-interest foundation. Opened in 2015, it forms part of the Ishikawa Red Brick Museum complex in the Honda-no-mori area and preserves the samurai culture of the great Kaga domain of one million koku. Set in the greenery of Honda-no-mori Park near Kenrokuen Garden and Kanazawa Castle, it is easy to combine with visits to the surrounding cultural facilities.

History

The museum was established to preserve and display the armor, furnishings, documents, and other holdings handed down in the Honda family, who served as chief retainers of the Kaga domain, and is run by the Hanro Honda Zohinkan foundation. The current facility opened in 2015 and is positioned as one of the constituent museums of the Ishikawa Red Brick Museum, which reuses the historic red-brick buildings of a former prefectural institution. The museum stands in the Honda-no-mori Park area of Kanazawa, near 36.56 degrees north and 136.66 degrees east. It is within walking distance of Kenrokuen Garden and the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, and is conveniently reached by bus from Kanazawa Station. Best season

Spring to early summer, when the greenery of Kenrokuen and Honda-no-mori is at its best, and autumn with its colored leaves are ideal for combining museum visits with a stroll.
