Overview

The Port of Fukura is a regional harbor in Shika, Hakui District, Ishikawa Prefecture (the former town of Tōgi), set on the Sotoura, the Sea of Japan side of the Noto Peninsula. Once also called Fukura-tsu and Fukura-domari, it is a cove harbor opening onto the rugged Sea of Japan, where the scent of the tide and the quiet air of a fishing village let you savor the Noto coast at a leisurely pace.

Highlights

  • The scenery of a regional harbor set in a cove on Noto's Sotoura coast
  • A historic anchorage once called Fukura-tsu and Fukura-domari
  • The quiet atmosphere of a fishing village facing the Sea of Japan
  • A walk enjoying the sea breeze and coastal views

History

In earlier times the Port of Fukura was known as Fukura-tsu and Fukura-domari and served as an anchorage facing the Sea of Japan. A cove on the Sotoura coast, well suited to sheltering ships and to trade, it is thought to have supported the shipping and fishing of the Noto region. For its course as a regional harbor and its detailed history, checking with the town of Shika or official sources will deepen your understanding.

Access

The port lies in Shika, Hakui District, on the Sea of Japan (Sotoura) side of the Noto Peninsula, Ishikawa Prefecture. The usual approach is to head north from the Kanazawa area toward Noto, with the harbor set along the Shika coastline. Travel by car is convenient; for specific routes or bus services, please check the latest official tourist information.

Best season

From spring into summer, when sea and sky are clear, you can fully enjoy the view of the Sea of Japan and the mood of the fishing village. Winter brings the rough waves typical of the Sea of Japan but also harsh weather, so it is wise to check conditions before you go.
