Overview
Kashima Jingū is a Shinto shrine located in Kyūchū, Kashima, Ibaraki Prefecture, known as the ichinomiya (first-ranked shrine) of Hitachi Province. It is a Shikinaisha of Myōjin Taisha rank and is the head shrine of the Kashima shrines found throughout Japan. Together with Katori Jingū and Ikisu Shrine, it forms one of the Tōgoku Sansha.

History
Kashima Jingū has long held the rank of ichinomiya of Hitachi Province as a Shikinaisha of Myōjin Taisha status. Its buildings preserve the nagare-zukuri architectural style, and some are designated Important Cultural Properties. The shrine grounds are also designated a Historic Site of Japan.
