Overview
Mount Tsukuba is an 877-meter mountain at the northern end of the city of Tsukuba in eastern Ibaraki Prefecture, in the eastern Kantō region. Standing on the precincts of Tsukuba Shrine, it consists of two peaks: Nantai-san (871 meters) to the west and Nyotai-san (877 meters) to the east. Also elegantly called Shihō (the Purple Peak) or Tsukubane, it is regarded as one of the symbols of Ibaraki Prefecture.

History
As the precincts of Tsukuba Shrine, the mountain has long been an object of faith and has been known affectionately by the elegant name Shihō, the Purple Peak, and as Tsukubane. Regarded as one of the symbols of Ibaraki Prefecture, it has been selected among the 100 Famous Japanese Mountains, the 100 Landscapes, the 100 Views of Mount Fuji in the Kantō Region, and the Top 100 Geological Sites in Japan.

The mountain lies at the northern end of the city of Tsukuba in Ibaraki Prefecture. It comprises two peaks, Nantai-san to the west and Nyotai-san to the east.
Best season
Known for panoramic views over the Kantō plain, it draws climbers throughout the four seasons. Distant views are easier to enjoy when the air is clear.
