
Overview
The Edo River is a first-class river flowing through the Kantō region. Belonging to the Tone River system, it is a distributary of the Tone River. It is 59.5 kilometres long, and its basin extends across Ibaraki, Saitama, Chiba prefectures and Tokyo.

History
The course of the Edo River was originally the lower course of the Tone River. In 1654 the Tokugawa shogunate diverted the Tone, giving the Edo River its present form. The river was long used to transport cargo across the Kantō region.
Access
The river flows across Ibaraki, Saitama, Chiba prefectures and Tokyo, emptying into Tokyo Bay.
Best season
The waterside scenery can be enjoyed throughout the four seasons, and the riverbanks make for a calm walk year-round.
