Overview
Fujin-yama (also read Kaze-no-kami-yama) is a 241.9-meter mountain rising on the border between Hitachi City and Hitachiota City in Ibaraki Prefecture. It stands at the southernmost tip of the Taga Mountains, which extend across the southern part of the Abukuma Highlands, and its eastern side meets the northeastern edge of the Kanto Plain. The area around the summit is designated as Takasuzu Prefectural Natural Park, and Hitachi City maintains it as Fujin-yama Natural Park, making it an ideal place for easy hiking and nature walks. History
The name Fujin-yama, evoking a deity of the wind, is said to derive from old faith and place names, and it has long been loved by the people living in this area. Because of its geographic position at the southern tip of the Taga Mountains, it has been known as a spot overlooking the boundary of plain and highland, and today it is preserved as part of Takasuzu Prefectural Natural Park. Access
The mountain lies on the border of Hitachi City and Hitachiota City, Ibaraki Prefecture (around 36.52 N, 140.59 E), at the southern edge of the Abukuma Highlands. It is easy to reach by car from the Hitachi urban area or the direction of the Hitachi-minami-Ota interchange on the Joban Expressway, and the road is developed nearly up to the summit. Best season
As a low mountain of 241.9 meters, it can be walked year-round, but early summer with its dazzling fresh green and clear-aired autumn with its distant views are especially recommended.
