Overview

Roadside Station Tamatsukuri is a michi-no-eki along National Route 354 in Namegata, Ibaraki Prefecture. Registered at the request of the former town of Tamatsukuri, it stands on the shore of Lake Kasumigaura, Japan's second-largest lake, and is loved as a waterside driving stop. Its appeal is many-sided: a direct sales corner lined with Namegata's local produce and specialties, a rest with a view of the lake, and a base for the water-based leisure of the surrounding area. It is an ideal place to pause during a journey along Route 354.

Highlights

  • A waterside location spreading along the shore of Lake Kasumigaura
  • Local direct sales of Namegata produce and specialties
  • A rest and exchange hub for driving along Route 354
  • A stop for enjoying the lake's nature and waterside culture

History

Roadside Station Tamatsukuri was registered as a michi-no-eki on August 18, 2000, and opened for use on March 28, 2001. It came about through the application of the then town of Tamatsukuri in Namegata District, and after later municipal mergers it now serves as a regional gateway managed by the city of Namegata. On the land of Tamatsukuri, long supported by the water transport and fishing of Lake Kasumigaura and by farming on its fertile soil, it was born as a new hub of exchange and tourism suited to a car-centered age.

Access

The station is in Namegata, Ibaraki Prefecture, facing National Route 354, which runs along the eastern shore of Lake Kasumigaura. Access is essentially by car, and the clearest route is to follow Route 354 from a nearby expressway interchange. Its flat, lakeside setting makes for easy driving and an ideal rest during a drive. For details on public transport connections and parking, it is reassuring to check official sources before heading out.

Best season

Given its lakeside location, a drive on a clear day when the water sparkles is especially recommended. From spring into early summer the lakeshore breeze is refreshing and the direct sales corner fills with seasonal produce. Summer brings its role as a base for waterside leisure, and autumn offers the specialties of the harvest season. Because event schedules and shop hours can change with the season, it is wise to confirm details in advance through official information.
