History
Kamine Park opened in 1957 and has been cherished by the people of Hitachi for more than half a century. Its expansive grounds of about 15.66 hectares have grown to include a range of facilities, most notably the Hitachi Kamine Zoo where visitors can meet animals up close. Along with the Heiwa-dori avenue that graces the city center, it has been selected among Japan's Top 100 Cherry Blossom Sites and has become nationally known as a place to view cherry blossoms. It is managed by the public-interest Hitachi Park Association.
Access
The park is in Hitachi, Ibaraki Prefecture (around 36.61 degrees north, 140.66 degrees east), on a hilltop overlooking the Pacific. From JR Joban Line Hitachi Station a bus or taxi is convenient, while by car access is typically from the Hitachi-area interchange of the Joban Expressway. The cherry-blossom season is very crowded, so using public transport and arriving early are recommended. Best season
As a site chosen among Japan's Top 100 Cherry Blossom Sites, spring blossom-viewing is by far its greatest draw. At peak bloom the park turns cherry-pink and bustles with visitors.
