Overview

Kobe City Agricultural Park is an agricultural park located in Oshibedani-cho, Nishi-ku, Kobe, in Hyogo Prefecture. It was developed as a facility specializing in winemaking and has long been known by the nickname "Kobe Wine Castle" (Kobe Wine-jo). It serves as a base that handles everything from grape cultivation to winemaking and sales.

Highlights

  • A winery function producing and shipping wine under the "Kobe Wine" brand
  • An integrated approach covering grape cultivation through to winemaking
  • Spacious grounds combining agricultural experience with a place to relax

History

Nearly half of the funding was contributed by the city of Kobe, with a general incorporated foundation entrusted to manage operations. Opening in 1984, ahead of other agricultural parks across Japan, it was developed to provide residents with agricultural experience and a place of rest, to nurture local industry centered on Kobe Wine, and to develop a new tourism resource. At its height it welcomed more than 300,000 visitors a year. As it approached its fortieth anniversary, a redevelopment plan was pursued and operations were later transferred to a private company.

Access

The park is located in Oshibedani-cho, Nishi-ku, Kobe, on suburban hilly terrain a little removed from the city center. It is advisable to plan your visit according to local transport conditions.
