History

Since opening in 1985, the park has been one of Awaji City's leisure facilities. Its name is said to reference Onogoro Island, the legendary island that, according to Japanese mythology such as the Kojiki, the deities Izanagi and Izanami are said to have created first when giving birth to the land, a mythological tie that reflects Awaji Island's own place in that story.

Access

The park is located at Shioda-Shinjima 8-5, Awaji City, Hyogo Prefecture. As it sits on Awaji Island, arriving by car is the main option; check the latest transport access and operating status via official information before visiting.

Best season

Because the miniature exhibits include outdoor elements, the mild weather of spring and autumn tends to make for a comfortable visit. In summer, sun protection is worth preparing for, and warm clothing is advisable in winter.
