Overview
Lake Furen is a brackish lake straddling the cities of Nemuro and the town of Betsukai in Hokkaido. It covers roughly 59 square kilometers and lies within the Notsuke-Furen Prefectural Natural Park. It is counted among the scenic spots making up the Ten Views of Nemuro and the Ten Views of Betsukai.

History
The lake has been designated by the Ministry of the Environment as a wetland of high importance from the standpoint of biodiversity. In 2005 it was registered as a Ramsar Convention wetland. It is conserved as part of the natural environment within the Notsuke-Furen Prefectural Natural Park.
Access
The lake lies in eastern Hokkaido, straddling the city of Nemuro and the town of Betsukai along their coasts.
Best season
As a wetland where waterfowl and other creatures gather, the birds seen here change with the seasons.
