
Overview
The Port of Nemuro is a harbor in Nemuro, Hokkaido, situated at the base of the Nemuro Peninsula. Managed by the city of Nemuro, under the Port and Harbor Act it consists of the Nemuro port district on the Sea of Okhotsk side and the Hanasaki port district on the Pacific side, and it is designated a Major Port. A notable feature is that under the Port Regulations Act and the Customs Act, Nemuro and Hanasaki are treated as separate ports.

History
Under the Customs Act, the Port of Nemuro was designated an open port on 21 June 1910 (Meiji 43). It was later closed on 1 April 1987 (Showa 62), when the Port of Hanasaki was designated an open port in its place. The port carries an administrative history in which the classifications under the Port Regulations Act and Customs Act differ from those under the Port and Harbor Act.

Best season
The seaside harbor scenery can be enjoyed year-round. Seasonal walks with suitable cold-weather preparation are recommended.
