
Overview
Utoro Onsen is a hot spring resort in Utoro, Shari Town, Shari District, Hokkaido, also known as Shiretoko Onsen. It spreads out beside Utoro Port on the western coast of the Shiretoko Peninsula, facing the Sea of Okhotsk, and serves as the gateway to sightseeing in Shiretoko. Its seaside setting gives the area a wonderfully open feel.

History
The hot spring source was located in the 1960s, and the resort took shape around 1971. Where many small and mid-sized inns once stood, today larger ryokan and guesthouses welcome bathers.

Best season
The sunset over the Sea of Okhotsk is beautiful, making an evening soak especially memorable. As a base for exploring Shiretoko, it can be enjoyed year-round.
