
Overview
Ninoshima is an island in Hiroshima Bay in the Seto Inland Sea, belonging administratively to Ninoshima-cho, Minami Ward, Hiroshima City, Hiroshima Prefecture, and lying at the southernmost point of the city. It is the largest island within Hiroshima City. The island is topped by its highest peak, Aki-no-Kofuji, which rises 278 meters.

History
Ninoshima belongs to Ninoshima-cho, Minami Ward, Hiroshima City, and lies at the southernmost tip of the city. The island's name, meaning "resemblance island," is said to derive from the way the shape of the island and its mountain resemble Mount Fuji. The name of its highest peak, Aki-no-Kofuji, means the "Little Fuji of Aki," the former name of the Hiroshima area.
Access
The island is linked to Hiroshima Port (Ujina Port) by ferry, with Gakuen-mae pier located about 4 kilometers from the port. The crossing takes only about half an hour by ferry.
Best season
Blessed with the mild climate of the Seto Inland Sea, the island can be visited year-round. Climbing Aki-no-Kofuji and walking the island are best enjoyed in the gentle weather of spring and autumn.
