Overview
Ōkunoshima is one of the Geiyo Islands in the Seto Inland Sea, belonging to the city of Takehara in Hiroshima Prefecture. A small island of about 0.7 square kilometres, it is widely known as 'Rabbit Island' for the many rabbits that inhabit it. The entire island lies within the Setonaikai National Park.

History
After the war the island was redeveloped as a park, and domestic rabbits released there bred so rapidly that the population is now estimated in the thousands. Thanks to this large rabbit population, the island has become a popular tourist attraction under the nickname Usagi Shima, or 'Rabbit Island.'

The island belongs to the city of Takehara in Hiroshima Prefecture and is reached by sea from the mainland.

Set in the mild Seto Inland Sea, the island can be enjoyed year-round for its nature and encounters with rabbits.
