
Overview
Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park is a public park spanning the Nakajima and Otemachi areas of Naka-ku, Hiroshima City. Planned and designed by architect Kenzo Tange, the grounds include the Hiroshima Peace Memorial (the A-Bomb Dome) and the Peace Memorial Museum, and are designated a national Place of Scenic Beauty. It is also listed among Japan's 100 best urban and historical parks.

History
The site was once the Nakajima district, one of the busiest commercial quarters of the city from the late Edo period through the Meiji and Taisho eras. The park was laid out in 1954 under the overall design of Kenzo Tange. Within the grounds stand several memorial facilities, including the A-Bomb Dome and the National Peace Memorial Hall.
