
Overview
The Hirose River is a Class A river of the Tone River system flowing through the cities of Shibukawa, Maebashi, and Isesaki in Gunma Prefecture. Together with the Momonoki River, which shares the same intake point, it has been used for irrigation, and as a waterway it is also known as the Hirose Irrigation Canal. It has been selected among Japan's 100 Notable Waterways.

History
The Hirose River, along with the Momonoki River that shares the same intake point, has long been used for irrigation, and the two together are also called the Kōtō Irrigation or the Hirose-Momoki Irrigation. During the Edo period it was known as the Hitonegawa. Valued as a waterway, it has been selected among Japan's 100 Notable Waterways.
Access
The river flows through the cities of Shibukawa, Maebashi, and Isesaki in Gunma Prefecture, and can be enjoyed along its banks from each urban area.
Best season
The riverside changes with the seasons, and mild weather makes walks along the water easiest.
