History

Tatara-numa is one of a cluster of lakes and marshes that formed in the lowland wetlands between the Tone and Watarase rivers, straddling the city of Tatebayashi and the town of Ōra. It was once the only place where the plant Takanohoshikusa grew, though that species is now extinct. The marsh has long been enjoyed as a spot where swans arrive in winter.
