
Overview
Agatsuma Gorge is a ravine on the Agatsuma River spanning the towns of Higashiagatsuma and Naganohara in Gunma Prefecture. Extending for two to three kilometres, it has been designated a National Place of Scenic Beauty under the name Agatsuma-kyo.

History
Under the name Agatsuma-kyo, it was designated a National Place of Scenic Beauty on 24 December 1935. It is known as a gorge carved by the river along the upper and middle reaches of the Agatsuma River.

The gorge lies across the towns of Higashiagatsuma and Naganohara in Agatsuma District, Gunma Prefecture. The surrounding area can be reached by rail and local bus services.
Best season
The gorge changes character through the four seasons, with the colours standing out in periods of fresh greenery and autumn foliage. Seasons of mild weather are well suited to walking.
