History
The dam was planned as a specified multipurpose dam under the Kiso Specified Region Comprehensive Development Plan, aimed at flood control and water resource development of the Ibi River. Construction proceeded in 1957, and it was developed to provide flood control, water supply and hydroelectric power. It once also served irrigation as a source for the Seino irrigation system, but that function was later transferred to Tokuyama Dam. A redevelopment project to increase storage capacity has also been carried out.
Access
The dam lies in Ibigawa, Ibi District, Gifu Prefecture, in the upper reaches of the Ibi River. As the surroundings are mountainous, access by car in addition to public transport is common.
Best season
Autumn foliage and the fresh greenery of early summer highlight the contrast between the reservoir surface and the mountains. Water discharge may be seen during periods of higher water volume.
