History

Yuge-ji carries an ancient tradition that names the Great Teacher Dengyo, Saicho, as its founder, and it is said to have begun as a Tendai-school temple. Numbered as the ninth stop of the Nishi-Mino Thirty-Three Sacred Sites, it has long been treasured within the region's pilgrimage faith. Its setting in the folds of Mount Ikeda's western foot speaks well of a temple that has quietly kept its prayers through the centuries.
