History

Sakurano Park has been beloved as a scenic spot since the Edo period and has long been counted among the sites representing the scenery of Hida. It is chosen as one of the Hida Hakkei, the Eight Views of Hida, and in 2003 it was also selected among the Hida-Mino Sakura Thirty-three, a collection of noted cherry-blossom sites in Gifu Prefecture. As a blossom-viewing ground loved by the community over long years, its name continues to be passed down today.

Access

The park is located in Takayama City, Gifu Prefecture, at roughly 36.205 degrees north and 137.225 degrees east, on high ground amid the mountains of Hida. Reaching it by car from central Takayama or from Takayama Station on the JR Takayama Main Line is convenient. Visitors tend to gather during the cherry-blossom season, so it is reassuring to check the latest parking and access information in advance through official Takayama City sources.

Best season

Above all, spring when the cherry trees bloom is the highlight. In high-altitude Takayama the blossoms tend to open later than in the lowlands, and peak timing shifts from year to year. To enjoy the views that earned a place among the Hida Hakkei and the Sakura Thirty-three, checking blossom updates frequently before your visit is recommended. The fresh green of early summer and the clear air of autumn also suit a quiet stroll through the park.
