Overview

Kuzu-hachimangū is a Shinto shrine in Gero, Gifu Prefecture. It is regarded as the general guardian shrine of southern Hida and the second shrine of Hida Province (accounts vary), and its former shrine rank was prefectural shrine. Its main hall and worship hall, rebuilt in the Muromachi and Azuchi-Momoyama periods, are national Important Cultural Properties, and the paired cedar in its precincts is a national Natural Monument.

History

Kuzu-hachimangū stands in Gero, Gifu Prefecture, and has been regarded as the general guardian shrine of southern Hida and the second shrine of Hida Province, though accounts vary. Its former shrine rank was prefectural shrine. The main hall is built in the sangensha nagare-zukuri style and, together with the worship hall, was rebuilt between the Muromachi and Azuchi-Momoyama periods; both are designated national Important Cultural Properties. A paired cedar, a national Natural Monument, stands within the precincts.

The shrine is located in Gero, Gifu Prefecture. Checking its location before a visit makes worship easier.

Best season

The shrine buildings and the great tree in the precincts can be visited year-round. Visiting during settled weather allows an unhurried walk through the grounds.
