Overview
Tagokura Dam is a gravity dam built on the Tadami River, part of the Agano River system, in Tadami, Minamiaizu District, Fukushima Prefecture. Standing 145 meters high, it is owned and operated by the Electric Power Development Company (J-Power). Together with the Okutadami Dam upstream, it ranks among the largest dams in Japan.

History
Completed in 1960, Tagokura Dam is a power-generating dam operated by the Electric Power Development Company. Its reservoir, Lake Tagokura, was selected as one of Japan's notable dam lakes in 2005 on the recommendation of the town of Tadami. In September 2023, it was recognized as a Civil Engineering Heritage as part of the Tadami River dam facilities group.

The dam is located along the Tadami River in Tadami, Minamiaizu District, Fukushima Prefecture. The surrounding area lies within the mountainous Echigo Sanzan-Tadami Quasi-National Park.
Best season
The mountain and valley scenery within the Echigo Sanzan-Tadami Quasi-National Park is especially rewarding during the fresh-green and autumn-foliage seasons. As this is a heavy-snowfall region, checking road conditions is advisable in winter.
