Mount Issaikyō is a mountain about 1,949 metres high on the boundary between Fukushima and Inawashiro in Fukushima Prefecture, and one of the peaks making up the Azuma mountain range. It is an active volcano that remains volcanically active, and its summit is covered with rocky debris. It is counted among lists such as the 300 Famous Japanese Mountains and the New 100 Famous Japanese Mountains.

History

The name Issaikyō is said to derive from the Chinese Buddhist canon, a compilation of Buddhist scriptures. Situated on the border of Fukushima and Inawashiro, it has been known as an active volcano forming part of the Azuma range. It is listed among the 300 Famous Japanese Mountains, the New 100 Famous Japanese Mountains, and the 100 Famous Tōhoku Mountains.

The mountain lies on the boundary between Fukushima and Inawashiro in Fukushima Prefecture.

Best season

As a high-mountain environment, clear days from summer through autumn, when there is little snow, are best suited for climbing.
