Iwaki Yumoto Onsen is said to have a history of more than 1,300 years. It was formerly called Jōban Yumoto Onsen. The place name Yumoto traces back to the Heian period, and the area corresponds to the former province of Mutsu, later Iwaki Province from the Meiji era onward.
