History
Ito Den-emon, a coal-mine operator, built the residence as his own main house from the mid-Taisho period into the early Showa period. The gate was relocated from the Akagane Goten in Tenjin, Fukuoka City. The garden is designated a national Place of Scenic Beauty, and seven of the buildings were designated Important Cultural Properties of Japan in 2020.
