Overview
The Port of Kitakyushu is the collective name for the harbors spread across Kitakyushu City in Fukuoka Prefecture, unified in 1963 from ports including Moji, Kokura and Wakamatsu. Facing the Port of Shimonoseki across the Kanmon Strait, the two are together known as the Port of Kanmon. Designated an international hub port, it is a leading logistics center west of Kobe.

History
Its origin was the Port of Moji, opened in November 1889, followed by construction of Wakamatsu harbor from 1890. The Wakamatsu, Tobata and Yahata harbors became the Dokai port, and in 1963 they merged with Kokura to form the Port of Kitakyushu. In the 1940s the ports of Shimonoseki, Moji and Kokura were combined as the Port of Kanmon.

Best season
Harbor scenery and ship arrivals can be enjoyed year-round. Strolling around the ferry terminal and waterfront is most comfortable in the mild weather of spring and autumn.
