Overview
The Ichijodani Asakura Family Historic Ruins are historic ruins located in the Kidonouchi section of the city of Fukui, Fukui Prefecture. They are the remains of the Asakura clan, a Sengoku-period warlord family that controlled Echizen Province from Ichijodani Castle. The ruins consist of the mountain castle of Ichijodani and the castle town at its foot, and the entire 278-hectare site is designated a Special Historic Site of Japan.

History
The Asakura clan's base centered on Ichijodani Castle is dated to 1471 during the Sengoku period. The Asakura controlled the area from here for 103 years, ruling Echizen Province. The ruins were designated a Special Historic Site in 1971, and in June 2007, 2,343 excavated artifacts were designated Important Cultural Properties. In 2006 the site was selected as one of Japan's 100 Fine Castles.

As an open-air site spanning a mountain castle and the castle-town ruins below it, the ruins are best explored during periods of mild weather.
